Bloomsburg Track and Field Competes at PSAC Championships


SHIPPENSBURG -- The Bloomsburg University track team competed at Shippensburg University in day two of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships on Friday.

In the women's 10,000-meters, Sarah Bounds (Shippensburg/Shippensburg) fought through an illness to earn a podium spot by finishing fifth in a time of 39:46.20.

Bloomsburg got another podium finish in the men's 10,000-meters when Justin Shepherd (Cranberry Twp./Seneca Valley) took fifth place running 31:11.82. Also in the 10K for the Huskies, Misha Litvinov (Drums/Hazleton) ran a 33:09.39 while Ben Holmes (Waynesboro/Waynesboro) finished in 33:53.25.

Senior Connie Rainieri (Gilbertville/Saint Pius X) earned a spot in the 400-meter finals after finishing 8th of 15 competitors. She ran a 58.92, the second fastst time in her college career. Earlier in the day, Rainieri fell short of qualifying for the finals in the 200-meter race, but ran a lifetime personal record of 25.92.

In the men's 800-meters, Matt Krum (Hatfield/North Penn), battling a head cold, finished in 2:03.41 after running the first quarter in 57 seconds.

Championship action continues tomorrow for Bloomsburg at 11:05 when five Huskies compete in the women's 5,000-meter race.
